MNS is on a massive recruitment drive in Maharashtra. Uneducated and traumatized youth are the target audience. Nasik has received the Day 0 status. Recruiters from MNS chose this location due to it being the heartland of Maharashtra.

"Two days after Raj Thakeray revived his campaign against north Indians, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers went on the rampage disrupting Republic Day celebrations at a school in Nashik.
The workers assaulted parents and beat up participants. They didn't even spare posters of the martyrs of 26/11".

"Research tells us that by by shutting down schools and beats parents in their children's presence we turn kids into MNS material" , a MNS spokesman quoted.
To add to that when you disrupt peace on "Republic" day it sends a clear message to the potential candidate that democracy is flexible and the republic is a farce. Motivating uneducated and unemployed youth is easier than stealing candy from a baby.

Mumbai burning - let the games begin
The blame game has begun. Ruling v/s opposition.
Blaming Pakistan is the biggest joke. Why are we blaming Pakistan? Let me explain.
Pakistan is doing what it IS supposed to do. Its called foreign policy. Its their job and in their best interest to destabilize India and they are good at what they do. So why the hell are we blaming someone for doing their job? I remember the exchange between Robert Deniro and Al Pacino in "Heat" where Diniro(bad guy) says " I ain't never going back, I do what I do best, you (Al Pacino) do what you do best- try and stop guys like me". Al Pacino (good guy) says "if I do see you around the corner I wont hesitate to put you down". That kind of sums it up for me. They do what they do best and we need to do our best to stop them. If the Pakistani cricket team beats us in a match do we go and dig up their practice pitches and disrupt their strategy meetings? NO. We practice more and make better strategies to win the game.
The PM announced that there will be more NSG hubs in India. Isn't the NSG wing a reactive unit? Wont they come after the terrorists have taken over? I had written in my earlier post of the difference between Intelligence (Proactive) and Security (Reactive). We are placing more importance on a reactive model than a proactive one. On the flip side if the reports are to be believed there was enough warning about the attacks and the govt. did not move their asses.
I wonder where the MNS was/is during all this time. The 3 stooges i.e ex-Union Home Minister, Maharashtra CM and Deputy CM are all---Marathi Manoos. Maharashtra for Maharastrians at this cost? No thank you. The irony is that the majority of security personals killed were also Maharashtrians. How does MNS pitch this for their advantage is the biggest question.

1)Ex-Union Home Minister - Will star in the Hindi version of Terminator where he plays the "Dumbo-nator" who is imperious to feelings, expressions and logic. He is responsible for thousands of deaths but has no remorse or explanation.
2)Maharashtra CM - Will star in RVG's adaptation of "Jewel in the Crown" , renamed "Golis in the Taj" with his 24 carat lump of talent-dung son.
3)Maharashtra Deputy CM - Will be replacing SRK in the remake of DDLJ renamed "Bandookwale Mumbai Ley Jaayenge". His favorite dialog will of course be "bade bade seharo me, aise choti choti baate hoti hi rehti hai". heeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Obama's Apple
"I Love Obama" is the most used phrase in India right now replacing "you want to make franship"? I really appreciate Obama for winning the election to create history and all. I, not knowing what it is like to be a black man, oops - African American in American politics makes him larger than life. Indians are going ga-ga over his victory and were "supporting" Obama right through the build-up towards voting day. Its like the modern day Diwali when prabhu O-Ba-Ma came home. Light the chillums and make some noise.
What I fail to understand is why the Indian middle class who don't have the right to vote in the US, have a right but don't vote in India and are nobodies in the entire US election context feel concerned (+ve) about Obama winning. Other than our matching skin tone we have nothing in common with Obaman.
Obama for me is like the Apple iThing - everybody loves it and nobody know what it does. People have been giving me dirty looks every time I tell them to get over the hype and wait for the guy to prove himself. Middle class Indians somehow feel that Obama being elected will somehow make the lazy plumber turn up on time and their dogs potty-trained without any training. Some say they "relate" to him...his struggles etc. He is "very much", ekdum like us desis. They say "he too does not switch off his mobile phone on a flight, says 2 into 2 and not 2 times 2, calls an eraser a rubber and thinks a used finger bowl is veg clear soup".
Frankly India does not register as a "friend" on the Obama list and outsourcing is something Obama is against. Bravo. If he keeps his word and does what he promised we may see another Saurav Ganguly in the making.....(love him-hate him).
Anyway....congratulations to Mr. Obama. You made me proud. (like he gives a shit)

Marathi Manooooooooooooooooooooooos
Chutiyagiri Times: Our correspondent interviewed the leader of the "Marathi Manoos Maahan" (3M) to discuss the ongoings in Maharashtra.
Correspondent: Thank you for taking time out from rioting and talking to us. What is happening in Mumbai? A bunch of your supporters (maharashtrians) burn buses in Mumbai which are bought by the maharshtrian tax-payer and meant FOR maharashtrians.
3M: First of all, I dont indulge in rioting, its the peoples voice. The marathi manoos needs to understand his needs. His need is to get all these "non-maharshtrians" out of our state. They have come here to destroy our culture and heritage.
C: What culture and heritage? Blasting "Kaanta laga" at Ganpati mandals or non maintenances of heritage sites like the Raigad fort and Shanivar wada.
3M: All governments have been looking at the past and hence we are at this crossroad.
C: Your activities in Maharashtra - by implication says all Maharshtrians outside Maharashtra should come back to the state.
3M: There are no Maharshtrians outside Maharashtra.
C: WTF! What about Satyajit Joshi a true blue Maharshtrian working in Hyderabad?
3M: Screw him! He aint my vote bank
C: How is destroying property in Mumbai helping Maharshtrians?
3M: This model has been picked up from Bengal where there is a week long bandh called to fight for the rights of the daily wage earner. The daily wage earner does starve for 7 days but its for his good in the long run. Maharashtra actually is the US where jobs outsourcing is a major issue. We are in most parts USA part 2. Makes me very proud....
C: USA huh! How about imitating the US efficiency, effectiveness, systems ....
3M: Hold on....we cannot work on all aspects at once, can we? We are starting with the outsourcing problem and will work on the rest later. You can call me Mr. Obama till then.
C: Huh? Ok Mr. Obama. How have you drawn the conclusion that Maharashtrians hate the presence of outsides...
3M: We have a finger on the pulse of the people (hence we finger them..sic). I have spoken to more than 13 Maharashtrians, 13 being my lucky number and all. They share my sentiment. Anyway leadership and political agendas have never reflected public sentiment so why change.
C: How about throwing Gujaratis and Parsis who dominate the landscape out of Mumbai ?
3M: ha ha. Thank god you are not in politics. You dont mess with you campaign/election contributors you tart. You pick on people especially migrant workers from other states, too poor to bribe the police and too disenfranchised to have a political voice.
C: I heard your driver, mali and maid servants are all non- maharashtrians?
3M: I am a man who is in the thick of things. I need to cup a feel of the real situation hence I have employed these non- maharashtrians.
C: So you plan to fire them soon?
3M: Hell no! They are twice as efficient at half the price.
C: How do you decide who is a Maharashtrians? 3rd generation settlers, domicile holders, Marathi speakers?
3M: A person who can vote me into power is a Maharshtrian.

Leaders -----and a few observations
Saw Obama's speech today accepting the Democratic nomination for president. It touched upon quite a few issues..
1) Taxes - how he plans to cut down on taxes for the middle class
2) Outsourcing - how he would stop American jobs being outsourced
3) Education- how every American must have it
4) War in Iraq and Afghanistan
5) Control on Insurance companies and big Corporates duping employees
6) Oil shortage - and how American should tap their own resources / Alternate fuel research
7) Global warming....etc
He also made it clear that its not going to be easy, inexpensive and how each American needs to understand their responsibilities. He did touch upon how Bush had screwed it up and how he would clean it up. I had to rush to office hence could not see the entire speech.
Here is what I thought of it.
Observation A
This guy can talk. The first sign of a leader is how he delivers speeches (in my opinion). To seem truthful, sincere and inspire confidence in the people is essential. To follow-up and walk the talk is something politicians never do so lets not go there. I swapped between channels during the speech and saw our own PM deliver a speech about the floods in Bihar. It put the fear of god in me to hear him talk. Traces of confidence and trust were missing after a detailed search. He seemed like one of those reality show participants who puts up a brave front on TV after being chucked out waiting to go backstage so they can cry their heart out. He seemed so disinterested while talking....Rs 1000 crs has been alloted as relief. Why not just give the funds and not talk cause its an embarrassment.

2) Outsourcing - how he would stop American jobs being outsourced
3) Education- how every American must have it
Can wait for point 2 to be put into action. If he really means what he says and does half of what he promised the overgrown, festering IT bubble in India will burst. We have for 10-12 years been "coding" drones with no focus towards Product Development or pitching India as a "Design" center. Eventually everyone will realize that coding can be done by anyone and that makes us dispensable unless we couple it with Products or innovative designs.
If point 3 is set in motion outsourcing will be enhanced. "Educated" people seems to know more of their right than the uneducated ones. If the standard of education rises in the US, eventually you will need people to do the Blue collar jobs that the educated White collar job holding American will refuse to touch. This is where India and its ability to multiply like rabbits and speak English will come in.
Well these are thoughts but the competition seems to be heating up.

Politics is the process by which groups of people make decisions.
Bring on Christie's, IPL, NFL, NBA drafts and all will fall flat in front of the great Indian political tamasha 2008. The Left withdraws support and all hell breaks loose as the UPA needs the magic figure of 271 to retain power. Old rivalries forgotten, new enemies made, jailed MPs bailed out and a whole lot going down.
One of the funniest things I heard was one party accusing another of horse-trading. Guess no one is up in arms like when the IPL auctions started, when claims of players being treated as commodities and whores can up. Guess everyone knows our leaders have been there, done that.
Mankind's 2 oldest professions - Prostitution and Politics have always gone hand in hand like fish"n"chips and nothing has changed in this age.
All the tamasha had me thinking what if we had a 2 party rule in India? For example you are either join the BRA (Bandra rodent association) party or CD (comfortably dumb) party, with no third choice, would this political storm ever take place?
Something like the Democrats and the Republicans. India with it vast culture and diversity that we pride ourselves on will NEVER let the 2 party system work. Religion, language, geographical location, caste, gender and sub-sect segregation is what drives our politics.
Also with the 2 party rule, the party in power would have absolute power and would serve out its full term irrespective of the decisions it takes. So tomorrow if the BRA party won and decided to sell me to another country at 20paise/day wages with no bathroom breaks nobody would come to my rescue. But with 8023470234803 parties forming the government 1 withdrawal could spell doom. Mind you the party withdrawing support wont do it cause I am getting exploited but cause it can gain political mileage. Either ways I end up not being exploited.....

USA- The land of premature eclapulation*
Before you put your hands together for the land of freedom and the greatest country in the world.... 2 instances to prove this theory wrong:
1) Electoral College (United States)- "Rather than directly voting for the President and Vice President, U.S. citizens cast votes for electoral college representatives, known as electors. While electors are theoretically free to vote for the candidate of their choice, in practice they pledge to vote for specific candidates". ha ha. Have you heard of anything funnier in a democracy? This is such a farce.
Elections in India are won by:
a) Booth capturing (rural model): go to the place of voting and force people to vote for your party or fake the votes. Very rare.
b) Pay per vote(rural & urban model): buy votes from the citizens
The point is...the voter/people/citizen decide who their leader is...until the next step in evolution of bribing the guy counting the vote or bribing the guy who announces the results comes along.
But the founding fathers of the USA were visionary in their quest for retaining power. Let not people of this country choose their president, but let them FEEL they have chosen him. So currently 270 people out of a population of 300 million choose the president of the most powerful country in the world.
Now most of you will say its system that has worked for over 150 years or more. I say please judge for yourself keeping in mind the outgoing president.

2)Saw a documentary on NDTV yesterday. It focused on unlawful detention and torture of "POWs" captured by the US and allied farces. Torture included Waterboarding, Standing up to 40 hours, Forced nudity etc. The Geneva convention apparently isn't applicable / understood here. Most of the US solders were "doing their jobs" apparently.
Only 7% of detainees have been captured by the US. 93% have been handed over by warlords in exchange for $$$. As you may have guess majority of them were innocent citizens. The war strategy seems to be "if you kill enough of em, you automatically wipe out the terrorists".
I sometimes wonder about the people of Iraq who don't have anything to look forward to ...no jobs, money, homes, security. The picking up relatives or friends acts as a trigger for young men/women to take up jihad. In a land (US) where your "rights" are of utmost importance and you spilling coffee on yourself makes someone else liable to pay you millions these poor bastards truly are children of a lesser god.

I love my India
Our judiciary is under constant criticism for its apathy towards its citizen. A politically sensitive prisoner has little or no hope of getting a verdict in his/her lifetime from this system. Was reading the TOI this morning and came across an article in which Mohammed Afzal- the 2001 Indian Parliament attack accused said:
"I don't think the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government can ever reach a decision. The Congress party has two mouths and is playing a double game". He also goes on to say that if LK Advani was the PM he (LKA) would act swiftly in deciding his plight one way or the other while the present government is dilly-dallying his death sentence.
I wonder if a man like Afzal who is mentally stronger than most Indian being trained as a terrorist and all is crumbling to the apathy of the system, how ordinary citizens handle it?
Go BJP....make a political issue.

US Elections
The US election this year is a WWE encore but of gigantic proportions. All elections are, but the profile of candidates make it more interesting. Middle class "educated" Indian are highly concerned how the primaries are shaping. It is somehow of great consequence to us thought we don't have a say in anything that goes down. Hell we don't have a say in what happens in our country. Most I know don't vote either. But discussing the US elections is a fad and if you show ignorance, get ready to face high doses of neglect from your peer group.
The profile of the candidates:
1) John Sidney McCain III - Republican party nominee. This guy is old. 72 to be precise. Fought the Vietnam war, survived 2 plane crashes, torture in a Vietnamese POW camp for 6 yrs and divorced. His injuries left him permanently incapable of raising his arms above his head. His father was a top admiral. He lost the Republican nomination in the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush. He seems to encompass all qualities that an American president must process and more. He is white, fought a war, tortured, had an influential father and is divorced. The things going against him are his age and he being Republican (remember George W. Bush?).
2) Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton- WOMEN. Democratic nominee. The forgiving wife of Bill Clinton. Also a lier. Lied about coming under sniper fire while visiting Bosnia, playing a big part in bringing peace to Norther Ireland etc. The US for all its liberal views has never has a women president and all signs show it aint going to change. She reminds me of one of my sadistic teachers with big nails and bigger smile who bled kids by twisting their ears. I think the US may select a black man or brown man or muslim or jew as president but never a women.
3) Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. - Democratic nominee. The youngest and most colored character (no pun intended) of the 3 stooges. Born to a Kenyan father and a American mother. He is an author, community organizer, university professor and lawyer. Seems the most balanced of the 3 candidates. He being half-black , running for president and getting support would be liberal America's next advertising pitch. He is open for talks in the middle east and anti war. The most interesting point is he was half Muslim until he converted to Christianity. Islam clearly states if a man whose father is a Muslim converts to another religion - its blasphemy and punishable by death.
I see this election as a process of elimination rather than selection. Nothing new. We do it in India every year.
Go on....make dinner table conversations.......

India- Phoren Policy
The Maoist will be in power in Nepal a few days from now. I wonder what the Ministry of External Affairs does on a daily basis.India the rising Asian superpowers had failed to impose itself on any of its neighbors.
1) Nepal- we let the Chinese intrude and the 10 yr plan of bring the Maoist to power is finally working.
2) Bangladesh - a country we gave birth to in 1971 has spun out of control with Islamic groups using it as a base for "activities" in India. Last I heard 300000 illegal B'deshi immigrants were given Indian citizenship so as to make up the vote bank.
3) Sri Lanka- Lost control over it a long time ago. With the IPKF getting a licking at the hands of the LTTE little could be doen except withdraw to save face.
4) Pakistan- lesser said the better
5) China- really admire then for their planning and execution of long term plans. Be it the Olympics, Learning English or Kicking India's ass.
Scares me a bit!
